And they're off! - Press Release
Amadon Hills Thoroughbred Foundation: Caring for All Horses, Track Stars or Not
As the excitement of the Kentucky Derby builds, the world turns its gaze to horseracing. While many magnificent horses capture the spotlight with their speed and grace, there are countless others that never get their moment in the sun. Recognizing this, Amadon Hills Thoroughbred Foundation was established with a mission to care for thoroughbred horses, whether they become racing champions or not.
One such horse that found a safe haven at Amadon Hills is Rembrandt, an offspring of the legendary Secretariat, often hailed as the greatest racehorse of all time. Despite his prestigious lineage, Rembrandt's journey brought him to our sanctuary, emphasizing the unpredictable nature of the racing world and the importance of aftercare for all horses.
The commitment to provide quality care for these majestic animals comes with a significant cost. On average, it costs $15,000 annually to care for a horse at Amadon Hills. Every donation, no matter the size, plays a crucial role in ensuring these horses receive the care they deserve. Your support helps us continue our mission and make a difference in the lives of these beautiful creatures.
We invite you to experience the magic of Amadon Hills firsthand by visiting our sanctuary. Come meet Rembrandt and other horses that have found a second chance at our facility. Witness their beauty, learn their stories, and see the impact of your support in person.
Join us in our mission to care for and honor the legacy of thoroughbred horses. Your generosity and compassion can make a world of difference in their lives. Visit Amadon Hills Thoroughbred Foundation to learn more about our work and how you can get involved.
Located at Valley Brook Equestrian Center in Napa, California, our intimate barn shares a fence line with one of Napa Valley's renowned vineyards. It offers stunning views of the Vaca Mountain Range. Our horses live in a place where the environment promotes peace and well-being.
In preparation for receiving Remi and Ice, our barn underwent a facelift. Projects included: Restaining the barn's wood to help with weather protection and adding paneling to enclose the covered paddock, providing a dry space during winter and a shaded area during summer. We installed a large, standing watering trough to promote optimal horse health. We regraded the paddock for proper drainage and added new footing for optimal hoof health.
Even though these changes have been made, barn health is a constant; donations would be greatly appreciated to help maintain the horses living space.
Amadon Hills would like to thank Jim Felder with FiXXiT - Home Improvement for Volunteering his time and materials for the barn upgrade.
Please help our cause - by helping our horses - by donating.
At Amadon Hills, we are determined to help educate the public on the importance of equine aftercare.
Were you aware of the 18,143 Thoroughbreds born in the U.S. last year, only 5 percent, or 907 horses, will have the opportunity to race?* Only 20 horses, or 0.001% of each foal crop, will have a chance to compete in the run for the Roses. The fate of thousands of horses without a career in the industry raises serious concerns for their welfare. Public expectation is high that these horses will be appropriately cared for, not least because they have been bred and used for sport and profit in a multi-billion dollar industry.
The truth is that some are cared for and live fruitful lives, but many are categorized as 'wastage'! At Amadon Hills, we are dedicated to the well-being of our country's Thoroughbreds—the retired successes and the less fortunate ones that have been overlooked. Please help us help the horses.
